Dr. Byung-Wook Yun is a professor in the Department of Applied Biosciences at Kyungpook National University (KNU), Republic of Korea, where he leads the Plant Functional Genomics Laboratory. He received his BSc (1986), MSc (1988), and PhD (1998) in Dairy Science from KNU, with a doctoral specialization in plant biochemistry. He conducted his doctoral research at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), where he subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher. In 1999, he joined the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, as a Research Fellow and later became a Senior Research Fellow during his 13 years there. In 2012, he joined KNU as a professor. His research focuses on nitric oxide-mediated redox signalling in plants, particularly S-nitrosylation, GSNO metabolism, reactive oxygen species, plant immunity, and environmental stress responses. His current work extends these molecular studies to nitric oxide-enriched plasma-activated water and its concentration-dependent effects on plant growth and stress tolerance, bridging fundamental plant redox biology with emerging applications of plasma-generated reactive nitrogen and oxygen species.
