Prof. Yung Oh Shin received BS from Dep. of Biological Science, Seoul National University, MS from Department of Microbiology, University of Pittsburgh and Ph. D. from Department of Microbiology, Seoul National University. He was mainly trained on his virology at the Department of Virology, Fairfield Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan and National Institute of Health, USA as a WHO Fellow for approximately 2 years together. He spent nearly 30 years for virological works at Korean NIH. The major viruses he researched personally include Japanese encephalitis, Influenza and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (as a lab director). He researched on the development of
vaccine and diagnostics, and epidemiology of nearly all viruses transmitted in Korea.

During the period of 1997 to 2010, he worked at Medical School, Kangwon National University as Professor of Microbiology. He also served as President, Korean Society of Virology. After his official retirement from the university, he worked at Korean Institute of Science and Technology Information as a senior scientist. He himself is very proud of that he spent 60 years only for virological works because it’s nearly impossible to spend one field in public service in Korea. Presently he goes on his research life on antimicrobial and other biological activities of nitric oxide waters at the PBRC center.
