Biography
Sanghoo Park received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Republic of Korea, in 2016. After working at Samsung Display and the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), he joined KAIST, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering and leads the Applied Plasma Research & Innovation Laboratory (APRIL). His research focuses on understanding, diagnosing, and controlling plasmas across a wide range of operating environments, from atmospheric pressure to low-pressure and rarefied-gas conditions. His work integrates advanced plasma diagnostics—including optical emission spectroscopy, laser Thomson scattering, neutral bremsstrahlung, electrical probes, and multidimensional tomography—with numerical modeling and data-driven analysis. These approaches are applied to semiconductor processing, plasma chemistry and environmental–biomedical technologies, electric propulsion and electrohydrodynamics, and fusion-related plasma diagnostics. He has published extensively in prestigious international journals, including Nature and Nature Communications. By combining an accessible overview with recent in-depth research findings, his presentation will provide valuable insights into emerging plasma characterization and control technologies and will be of broad interest to both the scientific and industrial plasma communities.
