Biography
Dr. Sun Jung Kim is a professor in the Department of Life Science at Dongguk University, South Korea. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from KAIST, Korea, in 1991 and completed postdoctoral training at the NIH, USA. In 2000, he joined the faculty at Dongguk University, where his research has focused on the epigenetics of breast cancer.
More recently, Dr. Kim has expanded his research into the field of plasma medicine by integrating cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) technology into cancer epigenetics. In his representative studies, he has identified cancer marker genes and noncoding RNAs whose CpG methylation and histone modification patterns are altered by plasma treatment in breast cancer cells. His research team has also demonstrated that CAP can restore drug sensitivity in drug-resistant cancer cells, highlighting its potential application in overcoming therapeutic resistance. At the conference, Dr. Kim will present his team’s latest findings on plasma-induced epigenetic modulation, including noncoding RNA–mediated signaling pathways involved inhibition of cancer cell growth by plasma.
