Wonho Choe is a Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). His research spans a wide range of low-temperature plasma physics, including partially ionized plasmas,
particularly plasma–gas–liquid systems, and ExB crossed-field plasmas, with an emphasis on Hall-effect plasma thrusters for space electric propulsion. In recent years, his research has focused on plasma–liquid interactions, addressing fundamental scientific questions and elucidating novel physical phenomena occurring at the plasma–liquid interface.

Beyond fundamental research, he is a strong advocate for innovation and technology transfer. He has successfully translated his scientific discoveries into industrial applications by co-founding two startup companies with his graduate students: one developing low-temperature plasma technologies for medical applications and the other developing electric propulsion systems for space missions. In recognition of his contributions to science and technology, he was awarded the Order of Science and Technology Merit by the Korean government in 2023.
