Biography
Prof. Masaharu Shiratani is the Senior Vice President of Kyushu University, Japan, and a Research Professor at the Center of Plasma Nano-Interface Engineering. He received his B.Eng. (1983), M.Eng. (1985), and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (1990) from Kyushu University.

Prof. Shiratani is an internationally recognized leader in plasma science and semiconductor processing. His research focuses on plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for semiconductor manufacturing, plasma nanotechnology, carbon and nitrogen recycling, and plasma agriculture. He has authored more than 340 peer-reviewed journal publications and has an H-index of 52 (Google Scholar), reflecting his significant contributions to plasma science and engineering.

He currently serves as Chair of the Semiconductor Strategy Expert Committee of Kyushu, Chair of IEEE Nanotechnology Council Technical Committee 17 on Emerging Plasma Nanotechnologies, and Vice-Chair of the Division of Plasma Physics of the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies. He previously served as President of the Materials Research Society of Japan, Editor of Reviews of Modern Plasma Physics, Vice President of the Japan Society of Plasma Science and Nuclear Fusion Research, and held leadership positions in the American Physical Society, American Vacuum Society, and the Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Prof. Shiratani has received 28 prestigious awards, including the Plasma Materials Science Hall of Fame Prize (2023), recognizing his pioneering contributions to plasma science, semiconductor technology, and sustainable plasma-based applications.
